Since the incident, I have been reflecting on my decisions regarding my comments on Discord and will continue to do so. As a result, I will be taking a temporary leave from activity. I would like to take this opportunity to share a few reflections:
- I sincerely apologize for my messages directed toward other community members. While I was experiencing frustration at the time, I recognize that such communication should not have occurred in public spaces.
- I also acknowledge that I could have been more careful to maintain focus on constructive contributions rather than personal reactions (focus on edits, not editors).
- Throughout my tenure as a Global Sysop and member of the Ombuds Commission, I have always acted in the best interest of the communities involved. Regarding the initial case, although I overruled a vote based on a strict interpretation of policy, I recognize that decision was not absolute, and the local community’s judgment will overrule me. As for the second case, I cannot speak to the specifics, but I encourage reviewing the recommendations I provided at the time.
- I believe I have not harmed eswikivoyage; since becoming a sysop, my actions have been aimed at supporting the project, and permissions granted were based on genuine contributions to the community.
- I confirm that this is and always will be my only account/username. I have not concealed or disclosed any information relevant to checkuser data. The retention of such data for three months, as stipulated in the privacy policy, is not confidential.
- While device or IP changes are possible, they cannot reliably pinpoint my location within 12 hours, and I lack the resources to travel frequently to obscure my location. Additionally, personal physical features cannot be altered.
- Since May, I have been attending therapy sessions following a serious mental health crisis. Denying this based on conversations taken out of context, without substantial evidence, would be inappropriate and harmful.
- I appreciate U4C for the opportunity they provided; however, I need to clarify a few points:
- My initial intention in opening the case was to create a space where community members would not be called liars or subjected to similar disrespectful comments, especially since the incident in May.
- I believe U4C overlooked the situation on eswikiquote, which appears to have been controlled by a single sysop who protected a voting page for two years, allowing only certain users to apply, and blocked others arbitrarily.
- Following the outcome from U4C, a "winner’s justice" was perceived, with some parties requesting harsher sanctions despite existing policies limiting sanctions to one month. This suggests that the focus may have shifted from community protection to defending personal interests.
- There appears to be ongoing retaliation against contributors to eswikivoyage, attempting to disrupt processes. Interestingly, unlike eswikiquote, no one contributed or attempted to participate constructively in the project.
- There is also systematic harassment within eswiki, where individuals expressing dissenting opinions are labeled as "liars" or dismissed repeatedly. Building a volunteer community requires forgiveness and progress, not revenge and fear. While challenging, fostering an environment of understanding is essential, especially in a realm reliant on volunteer participation. Harmful environments hinder the project’s growth and integrity.
- I completely regret having trusted someone so unscrupulous that he initially sought to harm me. While this helped me break through the masks of those I considered allies, the cost was enormous.
Finally, perspective is important. Comparing actions taken on eswikivoyage to some of history’s worst atrocities is disproportionate. (By the same logic, does silence or lack of criticism imply community approval of such comments?)
