Ñðåäíåé âåëè÷èíû, îáû÷íî ñëåãêà äîðñîâåíòðàëüíî óïëîùåííûå è âíåøíå ðàçíîîáðàçíûå öèêàäîâûå íàñåêîìûå. Ïîëèôàãè è îëèãîôàãè îäíîäîëüíûõ, òàêèõ êàê çëàêè, ïàëüìû è äð. Äëÿ ÑÑÑÐ óêàçûâàëîñü 2 ðîäà è 4 âèäà[10][11]
 ñòðàíàõ óìåðåííîãî êëèìàòà ðàçìåðû ñðåäíèå (äëèíà òåëà îò 7 äî 9 ìì)[12].
Êëàññèôèêàöèÿ
Îêîëî 680 âèäîâ è 197 ðîäîâ[3][8].  Åâðîïå ïðåäñòàâëåíû, â òîì ÷èñëå, ðîäàìè Omatissus è Tripetymorpha (ïîäñåìåéñòâî Tropiduchinae).
