 ïèãìåíòíûõ êëåòêàõ ãåí IRF4 ìîæåò ðåãóëèðîâàòüñÿ MITF[àíãë.].[4] IRF4 ÿâëÿåòñÿ ôàêòîðîì òðàíñêðèïöèè, êîòîðûé âîâëå÷åí â îñòðûé ëåéêîç.[5] Ýòîò ãåí ñèëüíî àññîöèèðîâàí ñ ðàçëè÷íîé ïèãìåíòàöèåé, êàê òî: ÷óâñòâèòåëüíîñòü êîæè ê âîçäåéñòâèþ ñîëíöà, âåñíóøêè, ãîëóáîé öâåò ãëàç, è êîðè÷íåâûé öâåò âîëîñ.[6]
